What a year we have had!
2019 saw Birdblack Design turn 5 years old in June - and as a five year old business, boy oh boy! Not only did we have a spectacular year, but in SO many ways, we have put firm foundations down (yep, that's a building pun!) for the exponential growth in 2020 - the year of perfect vision.
Some of our favourite highlights of 2019 include winning the 2019 IWIB Award for Small Business of the Year, and being featured in revered publications like Grand Designs Australia, Home Beautiful, Coal Coast Magazine and The Interiors Addict.
Birdblack Design features yet again in the latest Coal Coast Magazine edition, discussing bold design choices and colours in the Illawarra. We cannot encourage our clients enough to think outside the box, and trust us with our creative and innovative knowledge of trends, colours and textures. From terracotta to terrazzo to teal hand-blown glass pendants, we dominate in creative, bespoke design.
In addition to the countless Residential Projects (Full Homes, Bathrooms, Kitchens and Bedrooms), we branched into Commercial Design with 8 Commercial projects: an Osteopathic Clinic, a Seafood Restaurant,a Real Estate Agent, a Makeup & Brow Bar, a Periodontist Clinic… and well you get the picture that we are versatile!!
As we began ramping up our Commercial Design portfolio, clients began to ring in from interstate - ACT and QLD specifically, and even overseas! Birdblack Design has stamped our name on TWO projects in Detroit, Michigan, USA!
Melbourne, if you are listening, we would love a Birdblack Design stamp in VIC as well!
Unmistakably, another highlight for Birdblack Design was Interior Designer, Rachel Pace, coming on full-time in September.
Rachel began her BD journey back in 2017 as an intern through her design school, Billy Blue College. From there, she became a permanent part-time member of the team and now is our Full-Time designer! Owner and Co-Founder, Sarah Nolen, stated at the BD Staff Christmas Party, that if Sarah is the Engine label, "Rachel is the Engine!"
Speaking of staff, we are growing and developing! We are looking to expand in 2020, so keep your eyes peeled for new opportunities and new faces.
We also enjoy partying and letting our hair down so in November, the Birdblack Design Team headed out of town for a weekend away. Where does a team of designers go? To a Victorian style Castle of course! With turrets, 7 bedrooms, secret doorways and gorgeous rose gardens, the team lost their collective minds on arrival, scurrying from room to room trying to absorb the stately treasure!
Our job could never be complete without all our suppliers and tradie friends! Birdblack Design is verrrry choosy when it comes to whom we work with. Our standards are set exceptionally high and we produce work of said standard, so believe us when we say our suppliers and tradies are all of a high standard and reputable businesses in their own rights!
Another venture taken in 2019 includes becoming the official Illawarra stockist for Brightgreen. Our relationship with Brightgreen began as regular customers, utilising their extensive range of high quality LED lighting in the vast majority of Birdblack Design lighting projects.
As our business relationship deepened, Brightgreen reached out to us and we said YES! Check out their fabulous range online.
Well, we could probably go on and on, but to be honest, we have got another Christmas party to get to, so
