Albion Residence

This fabulous Sydney Terrace House is a juxtaposition masterpiece between the old and the new. Of course, the heritage style is noted in the very structure of the home as well as the ceiling roses and cornices. However, the Interior Design is very much a modern and contemporary feel, perfect for this young professional family.

The home itself has multiple levels so let us start from the Ground Level and work our way up! The Ground Floor includes the Kitchen, the Laundry and Guest Powder Room all designed by Birdblack Design. Given that terraces are long and narrow in style, continuity all the way through to the backyard is imperative.

KITCHEN
The true heart of the home, this divine room comes off the open-plan Lounge and Dining areas. We gutted the entire Kitchen and started from scratch. Flowing throughout this level is the glorious chevron porcelain patterned tiles with various tones of grey throughout making the perfect neutral based flooring to build upon.

The cabinets are a v-groove panelling cabinetry in a moody charcoal grey contrasting wonderfully with the white marble-look benchtops. This design utilises the v-groove panelling perfectly for enclosed storage and concealing all the integrated appliances; including the fridge, freezer, bins and Vintec wine fridge.

The feature highlight is the brass in the architectural style handles and tapware. Additionally, the cladding around the rangehood is in a brass finish. Hanging greenery is perched on some beautiful cantilevered shelving. A gorgeous timber veneer really brings lovely warmth to the space.

Most people would know that terraces are not known for plentiful backyard space, so our clients’ pets needed to be accounted for too. Birdblack Design considered specific storage for both the dog and the cat in terms of pet food, water as well as their toys, blankets and other belongings. Birdblack Design really does it all! Everything is brilliantly hidden away in the Kitchen so you would never even know it is there.

We also specified plenty of task lighting and LED strips to add more lighting, as terraces tend to be on the darker side. The view from the Dining Room into the Kitchen, past the Laundry straight to the backyard is enhanced by our beautiful custom (design and made) glass doors with a contemporary metal crossbar design allows the view to be seen… as well as allowing natural light to flood through!

LAUNDRY
Utilising a very small space, Birdblack Design continued with our v-groove cabinetry. We created bi-fold doors that at a glance look like linen cupboards. Open them up though, and you will find an underbench washing machine and dryer, as well as plenty of bench space for this working family. The Laundry includes a hanging rail and plenty of enclosed storage, again maximising space and minimising mess. The clear glass doors allow the backyard view to continue.

Chevron porcelain continues from the Kitchen through the Laundry, all the way to the back door. The benchtop and splashback are the same marble-look porcelain as in Kitchen but in the Laundry, Birdblack Design chose the v-groove cabinetry to be in a smoked ebony timber with the alternate brass handles. The tapware in this room is a gorgeous matte black to complement the ebony cabinetry. This allows cohesion within the home with subtle differences that really define individual spaces.

GUEST POWDER ROOM – GROUND FLOOR
Once again, the grey-toned chevron porcelain floor tiles flow through this space. It is met with a simply spectacular apricot and blush pink terrazzo tile and soft peachy pink painted wall. A light oak timber has been selected for the vanity, which has its own very subtle pink undertone.

This Powder Room has such a soft and feminine aesthetic, just like a boutique hotel, making it perfect for guests. The custom-made arch mirror and shelf finish off this room brilliantly.

MAIN BATHROOM
The original family bathroom was very small and dark. Birdblack Design pushed back one of the walls to create a larger Main Bathroom. This room is a crowd favourite with a magnificent luxe aesthetic and spectacular wow factor. Tapware and accessories in a brushed gold are paired perfectly with gold, glass penny round mosaics tile along the niche, really capturing the eye. The hero of the room is the Labyrinth marble floor tiles designed by the fabulous Steve Cordony. White wall tiles allow the flooring and the niche to contrast and shine.
A lovely chocolate timber veneer cabinetry brings warmth into the space. Blessed with a full height mirror and abundant storage for all the family’s beauty and hygiene products, makes this room wonderfully functional. Pull-out hampers are a fantastic addition, allowing what was once a small space to now flourish as a very accessible, open plan Main Bathroom.

GUEST POWDER ROOM – TOP FLOOR
Doubling as an Ensuite for house guests, the eye-catching Guest Powder Room features a sculptural element by way of the mermaid/fish scale tiles in a soft powder blue. Each tile is individual thanks to the crackled glaze.

Despite one Powder Room being blue and more masculine, whilst the other is pink and more feminine in aesthetic, Birdblack Design has designed in continuity. Both Guest Powder Rooms share similarities through the Arch Mirrors, the custom-made vanities; the round handles and cube design and the chrome tapware and accessories. We love harmonious homes!
