Our clients at ‘Ranchby Residence’ are a young couple with small children and pets. They are huge fans of the Modern Industrial look, but with a relatively new home, we had to be quite creative with how we managed the aesthetic of this home. Birdblack Design opted for innovative ‘weathering’ of this home, to make it look older and therefore more industrious than it actually is.
Three industrial looking steel beams were installed, giving the effect that the beams were being ‘uncovered’, however the beams are a brand new element to the home. We achieved the aesthetic our clients desired without starting with an aging home. Creative and innovative design at its best!
Considering the small children and pets, we opted for timber-look tiling for practicality. Utilising timber tiling equates to longevity, with no staining required and scratch resistant.
In the Kitchen, Birdblack Design wanted a bold and punchy colour, so we opted for a marvellous dark emerald green. What an attention grabbing colour! Having a dark colour on the base ensures a proportionally balanced top and bottom. The top of the cabinetry is a soft dove grey with a v-groove finish. This provides stunning pattern and texture to the space.
To warm up the Kitchen space, we installed a solid timber benchtop with a vertical slat waterfall end with LED strip lighting around the benchtop. This feature lighting is spectacular at night, highlighting the pattern and the definition of the timber waterfall end and really adding into the Industrial design of the home.
The Kitchen sink is a fabulous hammered copper sink with black tapware and a huge splashback window, again, really nailing this Modern Industrial brief.
The timber follows through behind the open shelving and also above the two open servery windows, leading out onto the outdoor entertaining and Alfresco area. The windows open up and can be used as a thoroughfare for passing food and drinks between the two areas, serving as an exit to the outdoor dining space. The Kitchen includes plenty of storage, a full open pantry, an appliance cupboard and even a fabulous wine display unit.
Bringing more warmth into the space, is the above mentioned gorgeous double copper sink, tan leather breakfast bar stools, and a stunning copper lighting over the kitchen island.
The grand entry into this home leads into a space that is adjacent to the kitchen, overlooking the front-door pathway. We created a vertical timber-look screening that acts as a partitioned foyer.
Adjoining the kitchen, we’ve incorporated other necessary spaces such as the linen cupboard, wall-to-wall concealed home office and a concealed laundry. All perfect solutions for a busy working family where the mess can be hidden away.
The Master Bedroom Suite is a magnificent space. You enter through a full height frosted glass door and are immediately greeted with a 5-star hotel aesthetic: very dark and luxurious, oozing opulence at every turn.
You enter into the Master Ensuite to discover a freestanding bath, with striking black tapware and black accessories throughout. Covering both the floors and the walls is a stunning Pietra grey marble tile matched beautifully with a natural Carrara marble sheeted mosaic acting as a shower shelf and display.
With a freestanding bath, a double walk-in shower and a separate toilet, there is plenty of room to move. This moody, industrial bathroom evokes luxury at every corner and the basin is no exception. This absolutely stunning basin is created from natural Onyx stone. It is a masterpiece and brings the entire WOW factor. Sitting atop raw-edged timber, this combination of natural materials is simply divine.
A word from the owners:
The amazing design of our new kitchen has benefited us immensely. Having the space to prepare and cook meals, sit and chat at the island bench and store absolutely everything is a dream come true. The new layout is so easy to keep clean and everything is unbelievably easy to access.
